As a lean six sigma black belt, I’ve trained in lean methodology. That is, how to reduce waste and be more efficient. Moreover, I’ve learned that this is a disciplined mindset. The mindset begins with you. In your thoughts and in your actions. The most important concept is to show consistency.
Henry Ford said, “If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got”. Now, I’m sure Mr Ford meant this to be more about doing the same old thing gets you the same old results. But I like to think about the flip side. If you’re consistent with your lean leadership you WELCOME always getting what you always got. Let me illustrate it another way. If I’m consistently modeling the behaviors of lean six sigma that I value to my team and always seek their input, then I’m going to build a trusting culture, and be satisfied with the results we are producing together.
